Exactly Solvable Quantum Chains

Workshop | Monday, June 18, 2018 - Friday, June 29, 2018
Directors:
Giuliano Ribeiro (Federal University of Sao Carlos)
Andreas Klumper (University of Wuppertal )
Vladimir Korepin (Stony Brook University)

OVERVIEW

In Bethe's seminal work, important ideas concerning the exact solvability of quantum chains were introduced. These ideas were further developed in the coming decades leading to for instance a large family of integrable and exactly solvable quantum models as well as quantum models for which at least the ground state is known exactly like the AKLT model and more recently Fredkin chains.

Recently the tools developed to the study of quantum chains have been used widely in other fields, e.g. for the computation of the anomalous dimensions of special string theories, the study of eigenstate properties like entanglement, the theory of qKZ equations, matrix product states, generalized Gibbs-ensembles, the relaxation of non equilibrium states. These quantum models are connected with vertex models in higher dimensions, which provides interesting connections with mathematics. An example of this is the six-vertex model and its relation to enumerative combinatorics.

This IIP workshop is meant to be part of a coordinated set of programs starting with a portion in Stockholm in Nordita from May 14 to June 8, 2018 (link: Click here), followed by this two-weeks workshop in Natal and followed by an ICTP-SAIFR program in São Paulo  from July 2-14, 2018 (link: Click here). Note that most flights to Natal pass by São Paulo anyway, so we hope many people will coordinate and come for both programs.

In this perspective, the scientific event will bring together experts to exchange views and ideas on several important problems related to the topics mentioned above and foster new collaborations.

The main topics forseen:

  • Integrability and Bethe Ansatz;
  • Exactly solvable chains;
  • Statistical Mechanics, Conformal and Quantum Field theories;
  • Application on Quantum entanglement, String theory, Combinatorics, Strongly Correlated systems and so on.
