Recent experimental progress has demonstrated the anomalous Josephson effect in different junctions (where a finite supercurrent flows at zero applied phase difference), leading to superconducting diode physics.  We clarify the conditions for such behaviors and discuss the relation to topological Josephson junctions from a theory point of view.
