Effective field theories give us a nice and simple platform to study several complicated problems, by capturing the behavior of the most essential degrees of freedom. In this talk I will discuss exotic systems that challenge the standard paradigm of UV/IR decoupling and how it is possible to explain their unusual behavior in terms of classes of exotic field theories.
