In this talk I intend to present a theoretical explanation (not based on the existence of magnetic poles) for the quantisation of electric charges, a phenomenon observed by Millikan and Fletcher in their oil drop experiment from 1909. Essentially, the existence of magnetic poles was the only theoretical explanation for charge quantisation (e.g. Dirac's magnetic pole); yet, there is no reproducible evidence attesting their existence.
