We discuss inflation, dark matter and neutrino physics. We argue that these issues require new physics. We then propose an abelian gauge extension of the standard model where neutrinos gain masses through the type II seesaw mechanism. On evoking non-minimal coupling of the Higgs fields with gravity the model is capable of realizing inflation and provides a stable neutral fermion (right-handed neutrino) with mass around TeV scale that may fulfill the conditions to be dark matter candidate in the form of WIMP.
